Gun manufacturers urged to experience the Canyon™ deep engraving system

October 16, 2014

Lake Mary, FL., March 5, 2014 – Fonon Technologies, the industry leader in developing high-tech fiber and CO2 laser systems for marking, cutting and engraving applications, is targeting gun manufacturers to experience the Canyon™ deep engraving systems.

Gun manufacturers have long marked metal gun parts with logos, numbers for inventory purposes, to fulfill UID requirements, as well as other engraving needs.  Methods for marking were as varied as the parts.  Some parts were cast or molded with logos while others had serials numbers marked with dot peen machines.  However, Fonon Technologies has the ultimate direct parts marking and deep engraving system for the gun industry, the Canyon™ Series.

The Canyon™ Deep Engraver Series by Fonon Technologies is ideal for performing precision deep 2D and 3D engravings on metal surfaces. By combining fiber laser technology, proprietary FiberScan C3™ software and industrial grade-safe enclosures, these systems are quickly replacing outdated methods (Nd:Yag systems, mechanical and acid etching). The Canyon™ Series uses specialized pulse configurations for deeper material ablation while creating perfect edge quality with straight & smooth walls in unmatched cycle times. These systems are specifically designed for high speed metal removal with no re-melting while being able to perform enhanced image detailing and finesse engraving.

“Gun manufacturers are discovering that fiber lasers are not only perfect for marking and engraving metal parts, they take up less floor space, are easily upgradeable so that the system can grow and change directly with the applications and they also offer the fastest speeds, therefore increasing throughput,” said the Marketing Manager for Fonon Technologies.

Each system in the Canyon Series has been built to operate in the harshest industrial conditions while operating on a 24/7 cycle. Each unit comes with special exhaust, ventilation and particle collectors which promptly removes the dust particles created when deep engraving metals. To prevent any system corruptions or malfunctions the electronics are stored completely separated on an air controlled chamber and sealed from the processing area.

Fonon Technologies Aids in the War on Terror

October 16, 2014

New Tool Helps Federally Mandated Arms Tracking Initiative

Lake Mary, FL – Identification and tracking of guns, small arms and ammunition are not new initiatives; however, recently issued Department of Defense (DoD) directives mandating unique identification (UID) marks and an international push to standardize marking, record keeping and tracing of small arms and light weapons, have manufacturers revamping existing processes and procedures for marking equipment.

The overarching goal of all of these directives is to make small arms, light weapons and ammunition easily traceable to decrease illicit arms trafficking and aid in the investigation of criminal and terrorist activities.   With most G8 countries on high alert for terrorist activity, this tool will aid in neutralizing terrorist groups throughout the globe.

Fonon Technologies has been assisting clients in successfully complying with UID directives through the use of the Handheld Laser Systems for marking small arms.  The fiber laser marking systems boast no consumables and are virtually maintenance-free.  The tool is portable, and fully-integrated for field work.

“The prospect of weapons falling into the wrong hands is a real threat, especially with today’s political climate.  As a company, we feel that it’s our duty to help any way we can in making the tracking process as easy as possible,” stated Fonon spokesman, Josh Jones.

In conjunction with the United Nations, the US Department of Defense states each small arms manufacturers mark should contain:

*Name of manufacturer;
*Country of origin;
*Serial number or other alternative unique identifying code.

The inclusion of additional information such as the year of manufacture, weapon type/model and caliber are also encouraged, per DoD standards.

Arms and gun manufacturers are discovering laser marking is the perfect solution for creating marks that are legible, durable and non-alterable or removable.

Systems include FiberScan C3™, user-friendly software developed by Fonon Technologies, and optional extended warranties are available.

To learn more about how your operation can become DoD compliant, contact Fonon Technologies to request more information about the Handheld Laser System.

Fonon at Cutting-Edge of 3D Military Printing
Live-Combat Scenarios Could See a Decisive Advantage with 3D Printing

Lake Mary, FL – Fonon Technologies, the industry leader in developing high-tech fiber and CO2 laser systems for marking, cutting and engraving applications, is proud to announce its New Additive manufacturing Equipment – the 3D Metal Sintering System (3D Metal Printing).  Fonon’s Additive Manufacturing Technologies encompass 3D FUSION TECHNOLOGY or 3D Laser Metal Sintering (Commonly known as 3D Printing) Technologies.

With the addition of the 3D Additive Printer to its focused line of laser printers, Fonon is setting sights on print and produce live weaponry for combat scenarios.  Due to the technologies’ ability to create metal cuts that are impractical to manufacture using traditional machine tools, additive manufacturing offers the fine customization and detail needed to tailor precise weapons to exact missions and targets.

3D printing is nothing new to the military, as it has been working on bio-printed replacement skin for battle wounds — amongst other projects. The military is looking to implement the tech to produce components for the weapons that will both reduce cost and increase customization.

Weaponry could be designed to meet specific mission requirements whether it is to improve safety to meet military safety requirement, meaning: tailored effects, better control, and be scalable to achieve desired lethality.

“One key focus is on the economic side of 3D printing. With additive printers, active troops would receive parts, tools and equipment in the field, without the cost of transport and delivery, allowing them the opportunity to conduct safer, faster, more effective missions,” stated Fonon representative Josh Jones.

3D printing also allows for integrating components together to add capabilities at reduced total life cycle costs. It is expected that 3D printing will reduce life-cycle costs of certain items and make munitions more affordable in the long run through implementation of design for manufacturability.
